Approximately 5 years ago, in the month of November, I had an idea. I saw that a gentleman I listened to on the radio created his own radio station. Upon listening I thought it was VERY DOPE! Only one thing…. I saw no reggae/dancehall shows. I spoke with him and discussed my idea. He liked my show proposal and said to create & submit a show. By now it was January of 2011. I won’t lie now. For maybe two or three months after I struggled with what I wanted to name the show. I pressed on and created the first show, none the less. After creating it of course I sent it in. He responded to me, “Nah man. You got waaaaaaay too many drops on there!” I was a little mad that I had to mix it all over, but now I understand a lot more what he meant then! So I mix it again and submit. He tells me that it was great! I still had yet to create a name for the show. Enter his wife. She immediately came up with the name #DancehallRadio, and that has stuck ever since. See what I was supposed to play was strictly dancehall/reggae from the mid 80s up till the mid 90s or so. I had a much wider scope than that. I wanted to play ALL music from the Caribbean. This was just what I ended up doing. At that point, what we now call #DancehallRadio was born! The very first episode aired about one week later on May 15, 2011! Today marks the fourth year of this show! I am very proud of how successful this show has been. It still amazes me to see, hear, read the responses from the overjoyed listeners. Some from many other countries and places I have not heard of. All tuned in for a common cause. To hear some great music!! Thank You to @DJBeeOnline for allowing me to even have this show, let alone be a DJ on his station! I really appreciate that a lot!
